Uruguay

09.03.2018. Total: 13040 km
Somewhere- Salto: 75 km

11.03.2018. Total: 13215 km
Salto- Motorway 18: 175 km

Gunar, my host from Salto drove me over the border bridge where it is strictly forbidden to cycle. Once on the other side, the Argentinian police asked me how I had crossed the bridge. I had not broken the law this time ;-) I got the corresponding 90-day visa stamp on my passport  and was allowed to go on.

Wild camping in Entre Ríos, Argentina, is virtually impossible as there is one farm next to the other. So I asked for permission to camp. The first 5 farmers refused but the sixth allowed me to spend the night there.

This was the very last time I slept in my tent. Beautiful spot!

Salto

Thinking that it was dead, I touched this spider with my phone. Surprise surprise- she wasn't dead and bit my phone!

Brasil II

07.03.2018. Total: 12800 km
Sao Borja- Uruguaiana: 190 km

Unlike in Argentina, in Brazil, lorry drivers are very careful and respectful of cyclists.

On the move

08.03.2018. Total: 12965 km
Uruguaiana- somewhere where there were streetworkers ;-P: 165 km

When I arrived at a Brazilian police roadblock on my way to Uruguay, an officer told me I needed to have my passport stamped in a city which is 90 km away from where I was. I had a déjà vu. Back in 2010 when I wanted to cross the border from Nepal into India, I was told I needed to get my passport stamped in a city which was 300 km away from the border. I couldn't believe this was happening again. The officer warned me that if I didn't get my passport stamped to show I was leaving Brazil, I might be allowed to enter Uruguay  but then if I had to cross the border into Brazil again, I might be in trouble. As I was not planning to go to Brazil again, I decided to take my chances. The police in Uruguay were very friendly and did not check if I had a stamp on my passport. I was very lucky.

Today I slept at a roadworks site. The people there were very nice and let me sleep in the kitchen.

Argentina II

14.03.2018. Total: 13570 km
Gálvez- Rosario: 120 km

Today is my last day of my bike trip. When I arrive in Rosario this evening, my bike trip round South America will be over. I'm glad to give my body and mind a rest.

Caution. Bridge repair. Not more than 2 tones.

Really?

Back on 30th. August 2017 I took a photo at the same spot before setting off. Today, 14th March 2018, I'm back in Rosario and this is where my trip ends.

13.03.2018. Total: 13450 km
Paraná- Gálvez: 110 km

It was really very nice of Sebastián, my host in Paraná to drive me through the Hernandarias tunnel where cycling is not allowed. Today I arrived in Gálvez,  in Santa fé, where I spent the first night and  will be spending my last night of my bike trip round South America.

Cycling is forbidden in most motorways. Luckily for me, one can just ignore the signs most of the times.

12.02.2018. Total: 13340 km
Motorway 18- Paraná: 125 km

06.03.2018. Total: 12610 km
Posadas- Sao Borja: 175 km

Some Argentinian lorry drivers drive so recklessly that I had to swerve off the road a couple of times.
 Centre of Posadas, Misiones

On the Argentinian side it is forbidden to cycle on the road to the border but I had to do it anyway. The problem was when I got to a toll booth. There was a boom barrier and I knew I was not going to be allowed to cycle any further. So, I just slipped under the boom barrier and pedalled like mad . I did hear somebody shout at me but I ignored him. Luckily the police didnt't come after me.
